FUNAMU cultural work
Identity that enduresSince 2007 in Caquetá

01 / Our origin

A grassroots organization with a collective purpose.

Culture and human rights are the two pillars that guide every FUNAMU process.

We are a non-profit organization of black communities, created in 2007 (19 years ago) in the department of Caquetá, with recognition from the Ministry of the Interior as a grassroots organization of NARP communities. We work from two strategic lines: Culture and Human Rights and 15 lines of action called legacies, in which our programs are framed.

What Motivated the Creation of this Organization?

This organization was born in the department of Caquetá, as an initiative of a young Afro-descendant woman, after being a victim of forced displacement in 1997. The motivation is the need to help people who suffer the scourge of different violence, discrimination and racism, and to generate opportunities for the historically impoverished Afro-descendant population. For the organization, the family is a priority, with an emphasis on affirmative actions aimed at improving the quality of life and building life projects worthy of youth and women from the recognition, conservation and dissemination of the identity of black, Afro-Colombian, Raizal and Palenquero communities.

What guides us

One organization, three commitments.

01

Objective

Improve the quality of life of NARP communities and eliminate social inequalities resulting from discrimination, intolerance and racism. To preserve the cultural traditions and celebrations taught to us by our grandparents, who arrived from Barbacoas, Nariño, and bequeathed to us the manifestations of the Afro diaspora. The war expelled us from our territory, and with it family ties and great cultural wealth were broken. Today, from the City, we fight so that what our grandparents bequeathed to us: their songs, music, gastronomy, ancestral traditional medicine, and even their aesthetics in braids and hairstyles, endures.

02

Mission

Work in synergy in the preservation and dissemination of the identity of black, Afro-Colombian, Raizal and Palenquero communities for the protection, guarantee and full exercise of their Rights and contribute to improving the quality of life of people in vulnerable conditions in the national territory.

03

Vision

By the year 2030, the FUNAMU Foundation will be an international benchmark in the development of its '15 legacies' or lines of action: Leadership, literature, ethnic aesthetics, gastronomy, ancestral traditional medicine, human rights, spaces for participation and transformation, dance, music and singing, food security, oral tradition, historical memory, Viche and ancestral drinks, income generation and socio-organizational strengthening, in coordination with the sustainable development goals.

02 / Territory

Caquetá is our starting point.

Our work connects urban neighborhoods and rural communities.

Although we carry out activities in the different municipalities of Caquetá, our actions are developed mainly in Florencia Caquetá. Although the population is dispersed, the families that link the foundation are located mainly in the neighborhoods and veredas: Floresta, Ciudadela, Malvinas, bocana, Nueva Colombia, Torasso, Troncal del Hacha, Nápoles, Americas, Libertad, Raicero, Victoria, Adela corrales, Atalaya, La Y, Rodrigo Turbay, Sinaí, Timmy, ventilador, Centenario, Eden, Esperanza, Ricaurte and the rural area: Vereda la granja, Villa Colombia and Villa Susana.
